Nicole Willis & Soul The Inves... Keep Reachin Up
From the cold far North dance underground, this scintillating vocalist and celebrated Finland funk collective have created a uniquely hot record of romantic grooves! The Brooklyn-born Willis has worked with both Curtis Mayfield and the Brand New Heavies and done crucial work for Mo' Wax, while the Finnish-bred Soul Investigators crafted two previous full-lengths. After playing with members of the BNH and Mayfield, Willis moved back to the United States and worked with the band that would become Dee-Lite.

Chet Atkins & Les Paul Chester & Lester
Chester & Lester is a beautiful and fun album by two masters. It was recorded in the mid-'70s when Chet Atkins was in his fifties and Les Paul was in his sixties. The latter had been in retirement for a decade before the recording of this album. Nashville studio musicians, including Randy Goodrum on piano and Larrie Londin on drums, backup the master guitarists, but this is by no means a country album. According to the liner notes, only two songs have any overdubs, so, "You hear the music just as it came down." And it all "came down" beautifully.

Alamo Race Track Black Cat John Brown
"Black Cat John Brown" combines familiar sounds in unfamiliar ways, like several radio stations playing all at once. Some tracks have an identifiable post-punk syncopation, others are more echoey, and still more are fairly difficult to classify: a quieter Pixies, early Radiohead with pizzicato strings, "Soft Bulletin"-era Flaming Lips with The Strokes, and more.
Bishop Allen Broken String
In 2006, the band self-released an EP every month of the year. Fifty-eight songs later, Bishop Allen's pop smarts sound timeless, escaping the indie-pop idiom and revealing a language informed by The Kinks, Dylan, and The Zombies. On this, their sophomore album, the band made a quantum leap. Of its twelve songs, ten are reworded tracks from the EPs and two are previously unreleased. These are not just re-recordings. The songs' arrangements have grown, the production is lush, the lyrics are front and center, and the band's evolution has reached a new level.
Brian & the Nashvillains Setze... Red Hot & Live
Includes his biggest hits ("Rock This Town", "Stray Cat Strut", and more) alongside songs from his recent "Rockabilly Riot" and "13", all with a new energy that could only be captured in a live setting among his most rabid fans in the world. Adding a piano player and second guitarist to the line-up presented an opportunity to take some of his Stray Cats classics and solo hits into fresh territory. A must have for any Setzer fan.

Marmoset Florist Fired
Although principle songwriter Jorma Whittaker possesses an encyclopedic knowledge of Beatles-esque melodies and is likely to cite John Lennon and friends as his musical influences, "Florist Fired" leaves listeners with the unmistakable feeling that the band owes much more to a Keith Richards-led Stones swagger - without the budget or access to premium pharmaceuticals.

Silverchair Young Modern
Since exploding onto the alternative rock scene as teens in the mid-90s, Silverchair have grown up into a much more eclectic and melodic band. They've built a large and passionate fan base and have garnered high regard among critics and peers that once seemed unlikely. "Young Modern" is the fastest selling album of the band's career in their homeland - propelled by the #1 hit single "Straight Lines". It also features orchestral arrangements by legendary Beach Boys collaborator Van Dyke Parks.

Yes, this is nostalgia, but unlike most reunion shows, this one features four men still in full possession of their talent and eager to push onward. Real Time (so titled because nothing has been edited out or added) is a must for the fan and, with such a stellar cross-section of material, an excellent starting place for the newcomer. ~ François Couture, All Music Guide
Will Stratton What the Night Said
The desire to approximate what Nick Drake did on Pink Moon and apply it to one's own circumstances or era has bedeviled a couple of generations of artists. From Mark Kozelek to Mojave 3 to Damon & Naomi, so many accomplished artists have effectively set off after this precarious balance of levity and gravity; on this album Stratton ranks with the absolute best. ~ Erik Hage, All Music Guide
