RZA’s Bobby Digital alias has been responsible for some of the more slight entries in the Wu catalog – although I do love “B.O.B.B.Y. off the first album and hoped against hope it would serve as Bobby Simmons’ theme music until it turned out duke was a fragile, jump-shooting bum – but “Digi Sncks” is legit, awful title and all. So with that and the slept-on last Wu banger “8 Diagrams” – which might make my best of 2008 [though technically it came out in December] – Robert Diggs has got one hand on the SP 1200 and one hand on the quality control. Good show, Bob…If the Bucks take one of the Lopez brothers in tomorrow’s draft, I will be the dude chugging drain cleaner. Stanford is the home of conservative stalwarts and bummy professional hoopers. Each is abhorrent…The Pitchfork review for the new Silver Jews is spot-on. Basically, I’m happy that DC Berman is still marrying lyrics to music, but it’s merely a solid record replacing scattershot raggedy brilliance with – gasp – coherence. Flay me if you will, but I still consider “Bright Flight” the best of a strong lot…How can “Kitchen Nightmares” be so awesome and “Hell’s Kitchen” be intolerable? Maybe Gordon Ramsey increases his dickishness by a factor of a bazillion when stateside, but I think it’s merely Fox’s corrosive touch…Woodman’s East does indeed have Grain Belt. Any ladies who want to share a Grainie and talk about Richard Nixon’s neglect of domestic policy, holler at the tall dude with glasses…I mistakenly spent too much effort trying to track down a version of Biz Markie singing “Benny and the Jets” to only discover it’s on the 2-cd Beasties anthology.
