ARCHIVES

1. How long & why have you been shopping at Strictly Discs?

I have vague memories from my earlier days of Ron giving my pieces of Trident gum while he and my father conversed. Ever since then I have been a loyal customer because of their sweet deals and awesome vinyl selection.

2. Favorite release of 2007:

Probably Sky Blue Sky however, I was more reluctant towards new music and I got into a lot more of older stuff.

3. First piece of recorded music you purchased and in what format:

Despite being raised on The Beatles, Jimi Hendrix, and Bob Dylan, I fell victim to bubblegum pop and bought whatever was cool at the time, most likely Britney Spears, 'NSYNC, or Backstreet Boys. But not Christina, I had class.

4. Music guilty pleasure:

I definiately listen to more Motown than one person should, but I am certainly not ashamed. I have also very recently developed an unhealthy obsession with be your own PET and it includes a daily routine of listening to their albums (in chronological order, of course).

5. Favorite all-time concert/show:

In 2006, Anthony Kiedis and I made eye contact in St. Paul.

6. Favorite all-time album cover:

The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan because it looks so real. In their neighborhood, Bobby and Suze look so happy just to be together.

7. If I'm tippin' one back, I'm probably at ________ having a ___________

If I'm tippin' one back, I'm probably at Milio's having a Wild Cherry Pepsi conversing with my colleagues while getting free food.

8. Consumer item I cannot live without:

my iPod, or a good sweater

9. Percentage of time listening to music via the following medium:

CD player: 25%
iPod: 60%
Turntable: 15% (This number upsets me, but I often just listen to something that can be easily stopped and started for convenience purposes)

10. Favorite music website:

www.last.fm

11. Song you never need to hear again:

Besides 94% of songs played on the radio, I never need to hear a song which is performed by a group whose name is a place (Kansas, Chicago, Europe, etc.). Or Styx.

I was supposed to choose 10 songs that summed up my musical collection. Hey, I tried.

Cat Power – "Cross Bones Style" – Even though this song is a Chan Marshall original, I have yet to hear this lady covering a song in poor fashion. She also inspires females that attempt to plunk out songs on the guitar to keep plunking.

be your own PET – "Wildcat!" – Jagged guitars and sparse vocals throb with raw energy. This song is absolute perfection.

Bob Dylan – "Visions of Johanna" – "Mona Lisa musta had the highway blues you can tell by the way she smiles"

The Breeders – "Do You Love Me Now?" – While Kurt Cobain said that their debut Pod didn't let him forget an ex-girlfriend, Last Splash recently won't let me forget an ex-boyfriend, especially with a track like this.

Funkadelic – "Can You Get To That?" – With acoustic guitars and other instrumentation not often found in funk music, this song highlights the differences between Parliament and Funkadelic.

The Kinks – "Strangers" – This song showcases Dave Davies' excellent songwriting skills and gives more meaning to my own life with lines like "If I live too long, I'm afraid I'll die".

The Temptations – "Ball Of Confusion (That's What The World Is Today)" – The Temptations sing about world issues and a harmonica?! What could be better?

John Lennon – "God" – Actually, I do believe in Zimmerman.

Neil Young – "Cowgirl In The Sand" – Listening to Neil Young gives me the uncontrollable urge to move to California, specifically the Zuma area. And I think I've come to the conclusion that I generally prefer Neil Young with Crazy Horse, there is always a guaranteed kick within the music.

The Velvet Underground – "Heroin" – I guess I can't resist a good song about heroin. This song affects my psyche more than most. An inexplicable force inspires me not to do heroin, but just inspires me to exist in a way that others can't experience because there is a void in there life where this song is not. And I guess that I just don't know
