1. How long & why have you been shopping at Strictly Discs? I have been shopping at Strictly since 2002 2. Favorite release of 2007: Of Montreal's "Hissing Fauna, Are You the Destroyer?" is solidified at number one; its catchy as hell and had numerous parallels to a relationship break-up I went through right before it came out. Animal Collective's "Strawberry Jam" has gained some stock lately though for no other reason than its just insanely unique, catchy and fun in equal doses. 3. First piece of recorded music you purchased and in what format: I use to listen to a ton of Christian music growing up. Probably a Wow compilation (similar to the Now series but for Christians) or some dc Talk album. 4. Music guilty pleasure: I have none. What might be considered questionable by others? Supertramp maybe? I have also been known to buy a Britney Spears album now and then... 5. Favorite all-time concert/show: Slint at the Metro back in 2004. Hearing "Washer" almost floored me; the next and final song, "Good Morning, Captain" did. That or Of Montreal at the Pfork festival in 2007 where the band had the crowd in their hand the entire time with excitement and euphoria being tangible during the whole experience. 6. Favorite all-time album cover: The cover for Spiderland as taken by Bonnie 'Prince' Billy. Completely captures the feeling of the album while generating an association with the members of the band itself; really nothing is going on in the picture though; its brilliant. ![]() Spiderland - Slint
Loveless - My Bloody Valentine
Slanted and Enchanted - Pavement 7. If I'm tippin' one back, I'm probably at ________ having a ___________ If I'm tippin' one back, I'm probably at home having a Genna's Spotted Cow. 8. Consumer item I cannot live without: My Nintendo Wii 9. Percentage of time listening to music via the following medium: CD player: 60% iPod: I don't own an iPod (gasp) Turntable: 40% 10. Favorite music website: stylusmagazine.com (R.I.P.) 11. Song you never need to hear again: er..."Paradise City" by Guns n' Roses I have the pleasure of seeing My Bloody Valentine this up-coming September in Chicago. Let me preface with saying that "Loveless" has been what I would consider to be my favorite album going on 8 years now; obviously "excited" is an understatement. With that said this mix is a testament to their influence on me. Where David Lynch explores our dreams and their inner meanings and those parallels to our every day lives My Bloody Valentine achieve this using dense sonic textures where every voice and instrument is mesh, flattened as a direct tap into that subconscious. So thats my motivation and pool of influence I draw from for this mix. |
